Lawn mower - ongoing excessive smoke

I could understand how frustrating it can be to have your Lawn Mower start up and throw nothing but smoke out. I strongly suggest you take your Lawn Mower in to the nearest repair store and have them take a look at a serious problem like yours. Thank you!!!!!!

Thank you for your question. The color of the smoke will help determine if the engine is burning oil or if it is getting too much gas. If the smoke is black in color or dark, the problem is getting to much fuel. I recommend checking the air filter. If the air filter is, clean the problem in going to be most likely the carburetor.

If the smoke is light colored like white, gray or blue the engine is burning oil. If the oil level and air filter is fine, the problem could be one of the following.

  • blown head gasket
  • worn piston and rings
  • worn valve stems and guides

I recommend having a service technician diagnose the oil-burning problem accurately.

If you need further assistance please submit more details.
