Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't my Craftsman rear tine tiller start?

A:

The best way to repair a problem with the recoil starter is to replace the starter. It is fairly easy to remove the original starter from the engine and install a new one.

The part number for the recoil starter is 420603, and the cost is around $28.00.

Q:

fill cap

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Some applications will have an oil level dipstick and your model does not use an oil dipstick. The plug you see is plugging the dipstick tube since your model does not have one. On page 11 in the Owner's Manual it shows how to check the engine oil level when a model does not have dip stick.

The image of on page 11 shows that it may have dipstick as shown; but it will not have one at the top where you see the black plastic cap.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.
