Model #917293490 Craftsman rear tine, gas tiller

Question and Answers

Q:

Is there a rebuild kit available for this model? 917293490 Craftsman Rear tine tiller

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

You can view and order the engine parts for your Tiller engine model 121402-0194-E1 at SearsPartsDirect. I don't show that there is a specific kit available for an overhaul type situation, but I do know there are gasket sets, ring kits, and things of that nature for this engine. You may also consider getting a short block and a gasket set and go that route rather than an overhaul.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Q:

When in the rear tine rotating positon, my tiller "pops" out of gear and into the "forward" mode only. This causes the tiller blades to stop moving. Larry

A:

The only things that you will likely be able to check yourself on this tiller will be the shift lever and the belts. Here is a link for the owner's manual for your tiller: Owner's Manual . This manual shows how to check the belt (page 17). The assembly instructions at the front of the manual show the links for the shift rod. Make sure that these parts are not damaged and are operating properly.

If this does not fix your problem then you likely have a problem inside the transmission that will need to be diagnosed and repaired by a technician. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .
