Q:

Trans axle will not engage. 917287261 Craftsman Tractor

A:

Thank you for your question.  I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. I will be happy to assist you. Based on the symptoms you are having I recommend checking the brake lever on the transaxle first. You want to locate the lever and move it back and forth to ensure it is not hanging up. If it seems to be ok, I recommend starting the tractor and hook your foot under the brake pedal. Then pull the pedal back and see if the tractor will drive. If it will drive, I recommend checking the linkage and the return spring under the tractor. I find it is easier to check the linkage with the mower deck removed. The instructions for removing the deck are in the owner's manual. Once the mower deck is removed clean around the linkage and check for binding. The image below shows where to check. Just click on the image to enlarge it.   I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.   Thank you for using Manage my life. Mark T.
