Q:

mower model # 917287251 changed pinion gear and soon as started up snapped the new gear how to troubleshoot before replacing the pinion again

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the starter. A few things could cause the gear to break. I recommend checking the ring gear first. The ring gear is the gear that goes around the flywheel. The easiest way to do this is to remove the spark plugs. Then slowly turn the flywheel by hand while checking the teeth on the gear. If the teeth on the gear look ok, I recommend replacing the whole starter drive not just the pinion gear. The reason is the other part of the drive might be causing the pinion to bind. When replacing the drive, make sure the bevels of the gear are facing up.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Q:

Craftsman tractor

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry the snow blower will not fit your tractor. The snow blower was manufactured in 2002 and the tractor frames were redesigned in 2006. The mounting brackets will not fit. The snow blowers I show for your tractor are models 486.24837 and 486.24838.

I hope this is helpful.
