Model #917287013 Craftsman lawn, tractor

Question and Answers

Q:

I have a Craftsman tractor, model 917287013. What if you add too much stabilizer to gas and the tractor won't start?

A:

Be sure you have the emergency brake on, the deck disengaged, and are sitting in the seat when trying to start the tractor.

Put some starter fluid into the carburetor. The engine might need to run long enough to empty the old gas from the carburetor bowl. Get it to run on starter fluid for 1-2 minutes then try to start the engine.

If the engine still won't start, schedule service and get a technician to diagnose and repair the tractor.

Q:

Craftsman Riding Lawn Mower 917287013 Mulch Kit 33038 Parts.

A:

Thank you for your question.

I will be happy to assist you. I looked up an older model that came with the mulch kit for the parts. the latch is part number 160793 and can be ordered from our parts website: Sears Parts Direct . I have also added an image below showing what the part looks like. That way you will be sure it is the correct part. If you need other parts for the mulch cover, I used model number 917272460. The fasteners and the straps are the same as yours.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

A:

The straps should be secured with screws and weld nut. I know it can look like a rivet once the head of the screw fills with debris. I recommend scraping the head with a small screwdriver to see if you can see the head of the screw. If it is a rivet you can carefully drill it out, then secure the new strap with the screw, and weld nut listed. To the best of my knowledge the plastic covers are not interchangeable from one to the other. Please let me know if the cover is damaged, I will see if I can find the correct part number for the cover. You might want to look on the cover also. Sometimes they mold the part number into the part. Thank you, Mark.

Q:

I had bad gas in my tractor. It won't start. It ran and died. Do I need a new gas filter? I drained and refilled it with new gas.

A:

The gas filter might be the problem. The filter definitely should be replaced.

If you still have a problem, the carburetor might need to be removed from the engine and cleaned or rebuilt.

Get some fuel stabilizer for the equipment and gas can. Treat all the gas before you stop using the mowers and be sure the fuel stabilizer is in the gas in the carburetors. It works pretty well.
