Model #917276884 CRAFTSMAN lawn, tractor

Question and Answers

Q:

We have a 917276884 lawn tractor that will not pull an incline once it gets hot. It won't pull the incline well when it is cool. What is wrong?

A:

You might have a worn or stretched belt, an idler linkage that is not moving freely, a pulley that is loose on the transaxle, or a bad transaxle.

You can check these by lowering the deck to the lowest level and putting the key to the tractor in your pocket. Lie under the tractor and get someone to push and release the clutch pedal.

You should see the idler pulley bracket move and the idler pulleys tighten and loosen the belt. Sometimes the idler bracket will stop short of putting enough tension on the belt. See if you can move the idler bracket to make the pulleys tighter. If it moves and tightens the belt more, spray WD40 on the bracket and move it several times.

Be sure the fixed idler is in proper position and not moving around and the clutch/brake spring is putting enough tension on the idler bracket.

Move the input pulley on top of the transaxle up and down to be sure it is not moving on the input shaft.

If there is no problem in this area, the transaxle needs to be checked by a technician.
