Model #917276630 Craftsman lawn, tractor

Question and Answers

Q:

one of the cutting blades seems to be tilted (cutting shorter one the inner side)

A:

You need to park the mower on a flat level area and raise the deck to a high position. Rotate the blades so they point from side to side and measure the distance from the tip of each blade to the ground. Rotate the blades a complete revolution and measure again. If the distances are different on one blade, that blade is bent and should be replaced.

If the blade hit something hard while mowing, you need to check the mandrel for damage and the deck for damage also.

Q:

when releasing the clutch, the engine cuts off. how do i fix this? 917276630

A:

Thank you for your question.  Your tractor most likely uses an Operator Presence (seat) switch that will cause engine to stall if blades are engaged or the brake is released without anyone on the seat. If ample amount of weight is not kept on the seat during operation or the operator is leaning forward the tractor will stall because the Operator Presence (seat) switch senses that the operator is not completely on the seat. To check Operator Presence (seat) switch:

  1. Lift seat.
  2. Locate wires that connect to Operator Presence (seat) switch under the seat.
  3. Disconnect and clean any debris in the switch connector. Use an ohmmeter to check the switch. When the switch is not pushed, the reading should be 0 ohms (closed).  When pushed it should read ol ( open load )
  4. Make sure the connector is fully seated on the seat switch. The connector is a special connector that will short the two wires if it is not fully seated.

Q:

Craftsman tractor mower #917276630: My dog chewed the wires under the right tire. How do I reconnect or what must I replace? My tractor's only 4 years old.

A:

. Thank you for your question.

I can understand wanting to replace the wiring on the tractor.

I would suggest trying to repair the wire harness instead of replacing it because except for the head light and seat switch harness the rest is a complete wire harness for the whole tractor.

These are 12volt connections so if you have some automotive wire you may be able to repair the wires.

If you would like the whole harness it is part number: 400449, for about $25.00.

I can give you a wire harness diagram that should help you repair the wires that have been chewed off.

Look at the area of the bottom of the picture where the black wire and grey are supply power to the lights and the electric clutch.

I hope this will help.
