Model #917276310 Craftsman lawn, tractor

Question and Answers

917-276310 engine dies when clutch released

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. First, we need to determine if the problem is electrical or mechanical. I recommend putting the tractor in neutral and see if you can push it. If you can push the tractor, go ahead and start it up. With the shifter still in neutral let out on the clutch. If the engine still dies, I suspect the problem is electrical. The reason being, that the transmission is in neutral and should not be putting much strain on the engine. First, check the seat switch with an ohmmeter and make sure the connector is plugged in all the way.

If the engine does not die, see if it will die when you engage the blades. If it does, the problem is with the engine. If it is running rough pull out on the choke a little and see if the engine smoothes out. If it does, I recommend cleaning the main jet in the carburetor.

I hope this is helpful. Please reply below with more details if you need further assistance.

Thank you for using Manage my life.
