power lost 917276101 Craftsman Garden tractor

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

I do not have enough details to have a full and complete understanding of the symptom. I sounds like if you do not have the engine at a high enough RPM when cutting grass. If the engine speed is too low, the engine can bog down and die when mowing thick or tall grass. When mowing grass, the engine speed should be at its fastest. Always operate engine at full throttle. Operating the engine at less than full throttle reduces the battery charging rate and it reduces the mowing performance.

I assume if you have the throttle at high speed the engine does not bog down and die. If it does, then I would check the deck belt, mandrels, idler pulleys for any excessive friction. Check the belt routing and make sure the belt is routed correctly. On page 26 in the Owner's Manual it has the procedure for checking the clutch. Another problem which could cause the engine to die under a load is a carburetor issue. I recommend calling a service technician with the proper training and knowledge to properly diagnose and repair your mower.
