Q:

Craftsman model # 917-275820 riding mower . Want to convert to mulching.

A:

Thank you for your question.

I will be happy to assist you. I looked up the mulch kit for your tractor. The kit contains the blades and the mulch cover. If you would like to order the kit just click here . The cover in the kit is plastic but we do not have that many problems with them. As long as the cover is installed correctly and the rubber straps are not worn, the cover will stay in place. If the top of the cover does not fit over the deck, it will fall into the path of the blade and be cut or break. Usually this does not harm the blades. If the cover was made out of metal and fell into the path of the blades it would likely bent the cover and the blades. If it hit hard enough it would bend the deck.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Q:

I was using my riding mower (Craftsman Model: 917275820) I was trying to change from forward to reverse. I pushed the clutch in and tried to move to reverse

A:

Your tractor has a reverse safety feature that will stall the engine if the mowing deck is turned on when you shift to reverse. I recommend making sure the engagement lever for the mower deck is in the off / down position. Shift the shifter to neutral and fully depress the brake pedal. Then try to start the engine. If the tractor does not turn over the tractor has an electrical problem. I recommend checking all of the wire connections to the following components. Engagement switch, brake switch, the ignition switch, and the battery. Your tractor has a fuse located behind the dash. If the fuse is also good I recommend have a service technician diagnose the tractor.

If you need to schedule service you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
