Model #917273634 Craftsman lawn, tractor

Question and Answers

Q:

lawn tractor 917273634 transaxle

A:

Thank you for your question.

I will be happy to assist you. If the transaxle is not leaking, there is not reason the check the level. If it is leaking repair the leak and then follow these instructions for checking the oil level. In the image below, I have marked the fill plug that has to be removed. I found that removing the mower deck made it easier to access the plug. Once the plug is removed, stick a thin screwdriver blade into the hole to use as a dipstick. The transaxle should be about half full. If it is low, you can add 80W90 until it is half-full. If you add more than is needed the transaxle might start to leak.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Q:

The mower will start and run as long as you hold your hand over the carburetor and choke it. As soon as I remove my hand it dies.

A:

Thank you for your question. I am sorry you are having a problem with your Craftsman tractor model 917273634 If you have to keep your hand over the opening of the carburetor for the engine to run I suspect the main jet in the carburetor is partly plugged. Usually cleaning the carburetor will cure the problem. I found a great site that shows how to clean the carburetor. Click here to be taken to that site. If you end up needing parts for the engine you can order them from the following link. Q:

I have riding tractor model 917273634 with PTO issue.

A:

It could be a loose wire in the circuit to the clutch, intermittent contact in the PTO switch or the clutch itself. If you do not find any loose of bad connections then the clutch is likely at fault. I added the wiring diagram in the image below so you can see the circuit involved for the PTO and clutch.
