Question and Answers

Q:

My Craftsman model 917273223 just stopped dead as I was mowing this morning. I had only been on it 10 minutes. Any ideas what could be wrong?

A:

I don't know of any one part on the tractor that would cause the engine to die while in use, and then keep the engine from turning over with the starter.

I recommend you schedule service and get a technician to diagnose the problem.

Q:

My lawn tractor.engine will not turnover. It worked until I tightened the electric clutch. I loosened the clutch back up. I still get zero. What could be wrong?

A:

To adjust the electric clutch, put a .012 feeler gauge into the opening above the 3 nuts you tightened, and tighten the nuts to .012 clearance. Look closely at the wiring connector to the clutch. Be sure there is a tight connection. Secure the clutch wires to the frame so the weight of the connector is not on the wires.

For the engine not starting, look at the brake/clutch safety switch. It might have gotten out of position when you were working. The clutch pedal arm has to close this switch for the starter to engage. Be sure the wires are connected tightly to the safety switch.
