Model #917272264 CRAFTSMAN lawn, tractor

Question and Answers

Q:

Hydrostat transmission 917-272264

A:

Thank you for your question on the purging of the transaxle and the wheels will not move. It will be hard to move the wheels if you have it off the ground.

I would suggest that you have the engine running and then pull out the free wheel mode and move the motion arm forward and backwards to purge any air out of the transmission. Then put the free wheel lever in the drive position and see it will drive the tractor.

Please let us know if that worked.

Q:

Clutch switch will not disengage blades 917272264 Craftsman Lawn tractor

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. If the blades do not stop when you push in the PTO switch, the problem could be caused by the switch not cutting power to the clutch or the clutch is out of adjustment. The easiest thing to check first is the clutch adjustment. I posted an image below that shows how to check and make the adjustment. Click on the image to enlarge it. After making the adjustment, check the operation. If the adjustment does not cure the problem, you will need a volt meter to make a voltage check. If you have a meter, turn it to check DC voltage. Then place the leads into the backside of the wire connector going to the clutch. Then sit on the seat and turn the key on. When you pull out on the PTO switch, you should have a reading of 12 volts DC and 0 when you push in on the switch. If you get a 12-volt reading when the switch is pushed in, I recommend replacing the pto switch. If you have a reading of 0 volts and the clutch is still engaged I recommend replacing the clutch.
