How to adjust or tighton cable to engage belt for mower blades 917272059 Craftsman Lawn tractor

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. The engagement cable on your tractor is not adjustable. I suspect the problem you are having is the belt is not tightening when you engage the blades. If this is what is happening I recommend checking the belt routing first. If the belt is fine, have someone move the lever while you watch the idler arm on the deck. The cable should tighten up, move the idler and tighten the belt.  If the cable is fine and the idler it is not moving, the pivot is likely rusted. To fix this loosen the pivot bolt and soak the pivot with WD-40. Then work it back and forth until it is loose. Once free, tighten the bolt and check the operation. I hope this is helpful.
