Q:

now forward or reverse 917271552 Craftsman Lawn tractor

A:

Check the woodruff key on the pinion shaft (key 14 on the parts list diagram). Replace the woodruff key if it's broken. If the woodruff key's okay, check all the transmission parts using the parts diagram as a guide. You may be able to find a broken shaft or gear that is causing your problem.

Q:

Where can I find instructions for replacing the drive belt on my Craftsman lawn tractor model 917271552?

A:

The information on the proper routing of the drive belt is provided in the image below. If you route the belt correctly, your clutch may work properly. If not, you can check the spring to see if it is worn or disconnected. It you still have problems, I recommend calling a service technician to repair the tractor.

Q:

Tractor Craftsman model 917271552, mower grinds when going foward on hill. Shaft spins freely

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. I will be happy to assist you with repairing the transaxle. I recommend removing the transaxle first. Take all the screws out that hold the two halves together. Then carefully remove the top half of the transaxle. Once it is off do not remove any of the gears because it will be challenging to put them back in properly. Slowly turn the gears and look for worn or broken gears. Once you determine which parts are needed place the top back on so does not accidently come apart. The parts can be ordered from our parts website: Sears Parts Direct .

Once you receive, the parts remove the top and take pictures of all the gears in place. Then take the gears out in clusters and carefully clean the grease off. All of the grease has to be removed to ensure there are not any broken pieces left in the transaxle to cause problems later. Once it is clean install the parts and pack the transaxle with grease. Then reassemble the tractor. As you can tell this is going to be time consuming, that is why we only install complete transaxles. The cost of labor is usually the same as the transaxle.

Please let me know if you need further assistance on the repair.

Thank you for using Manage my life.
