Model #917270810 Craftsman lawn, tractor

Question and Answers

Q:

I have Sears riding mower. It quit running while I was mowing. It seems to not have any spark. What is wrong?

A:

The first thing you need to do is find out if the engine has spark or not. Remove the spark plug and connect the ignition wire to it. With a pair of insulated pliers or a glove or thick cloth hold the bottom of the spark plug against a clean ground on the engine.

Get someone to turn the ignition to start and see if you see a blue arc from the anode of the spark plug to the base. Don't do this in bright sunlight, the spark is hard to see in the sun.

If you don't have spark, disconnect the connector from the tractor to the engine and try again. If you still don't have spark, the ignition module on the engine has failed. If you do have a spark now, the problem is in the wiring or the safety switches of the tractor.

Make these tests and if you have more questions, send another email with results of the test and we will try to help.
