Thank you for your question.

I will try to assist you in repairing the tractor. By what you have stated I suspect the problem is in the seat switch connector. The connector has an internal wire that will short out is it is not pushed onto the switch. The connector its self could be defective. If you are sure the connector was fully seated and it still dies, I recommend cutting the wires at the connector. Then tape the ends of the wire off so they do not touch each other or the frame. Then check the operation. If the tractor works, you have to order a new connector the part number is 148706. Do not operate the tractor in the mean time because the seat switch will not work. If you fall off the seat the tractor will keep going.

I hope this is helpful.

Q:

blade wont engage 917270530 Craftsman 14.5hp 42" mower lawn tractor

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. I assume the engine will continue to run when you attempt to engage the deck. If this is what is happening I recommend checking the belt routing first. If the belt is fine, have someone move the lever while you watch the idler arm on the deck. The cable should tighten up, move the idler and tighten the belt.  If the cable is fine and the idler it is not moving, the pivot is likely rust. To fix this loosen the pivot bolt and soak the pivot with WD-40. Then work it back and forth until it is loose. Once free, tighten the bolt and check the operation. I hope this is helpful.

Please let me know if you need further assistance on the repair of the mower.
