Question and Answers

Craftsman Riding Lawnmower: What would cause no spark? Motor turns over with new battery. Gas is also full.

If there is not spark the failure could be the ignition unit or the ignition switch. I recommend disconnecting the ignition switch wires from the ignition switch and test the ignition switch operation using an OHM meter. Terminals B, S, and L should all have continuity to one another when the ignition switch is turned to the start position. Terminals M and G should not have any continuity unless the key is in the OFF position. If terminals M and G shows continuity when the key is in the run or start position, replace the ignition switch. If terminals B, S and L have continuity to each other then the likely failure is the ignition unit.
