Question and Answers

Q:

I have a Craftsman lawn tractor #917256511 and the deck will not engage. I have replaced the pulleys and the belt looks good. When I pull the lever to engage,

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. If the belt will not tighten, park the tractor on a hard level surface. Then lower the deck so that you can see the linkage to the mower deck. While you watch the idler on the mower deck, have a helper move the lever up and down. You should see the idler move. If the linkage is moving but the idler is not I suspect the idler on the deck is rusted. First, loosen the idler pivot bolt. Then soak the pivot with WD-40 and work the idler with your hand. Once it is loosened up, tighten the pivot bolt and check the operation.

If the idler does not attempt to move when you move the lever, I recommend checking the linkage between the lever and the idler. In the image below, I have marked the linkage.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you for using Manage my life.

Mark.
