Question and Answers

Q:

How do I replace the v-belt on a Craftsman riding mower? It is a 1995 model 917250551. It seems the deck belts block the path.

A:

To replace the drive belt on most riding mowers you have to remove the deck belt. You need to get the deck out of your way to access the belt guide and idler pulley of the drive belt anyway.

Lower the deck to the lowest setting. There are pins and hair clips holding the deck to the lift arms, remove them and let the deck set on the ground. Slide the deck forward and remove the primary deck belt from the electric clutch pulley. Remove the deck from the mower.

Work the drive belt off the idler and you will have enough slack to remove it from the engine pulley. You can bend the belt guides back to let the belt clear the pulleys. Don't forget to bend them back or the belt will come off under load.

Q:

Mounting Snowblower Model # 842242560 onto Craftsman Lawn Tractor Model 917250551 842242560 Craftsman Snow thrower

A:

The snowblower that is designed for that tractor is model 24837 (486.24837) along with fit-up kit 24831. I don't have information on using that model 842.242560 snow thrower for that model of Craftsman tractor. It may not be compatible.
