Q:

I'm trying to change a front wheel on riding tractor model 917248980. How do I take off the front tire? Help.

A:

The model number you sent is for a grass catcher. If my answer doesn't answer all your questions, send another email and include the correct model number.

Jack the front end of the tractor up and prop it securely. Remove the plastic cap from the axle with a pair of pliers. Pinch it and pull it off, it won't tear. Remove the cotter key or the clip holding the wheel on the axle and slide the wheel from the axle.

Remove the valve core from the valve stem on the wheel and let all the air out of the tire. To break the lip of the tire loose from the wheel I sometimes place the tire under a wheel on a vehicle and drive over the tire. The bond between the tire and wheel is sometimes very difficult to break loose.

Once you have the tire broken loose from the wheel, pry the wheel off the tire with 2 large screwdrivers.

When you install the tire back on the wheel lubricate the edge of the wheel with soapy water so the tire will slide over the edge better and pry with screwdrivers to put it on.

Q:

Would the 3 bin grass catcher model #917.248980 fit the lawn tractor Model# 28851 917248980 Craftsman Grass catcher

A:

Thank you for your question.

I will be happy to assist you. I looked up the bagger model you submitted. The bagger you have is older than the bagger offered now. The best I can tell the bagger will work on a new 42 inch tractor. It looks like the mount and the deck opening is the same.
I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!

A:

Randy, Please let me know what the model number of the tractor is along with the model number of the bagger. If the two model numbers do not start with the same three numbers they are not compatible. If they do, you may only need to purchase a new lower chute. Thank you for using Manage my life. Mark
