Question and Answers

Q:

PTO on PGT 9000

A:

Angie, I am sorry you are having the same problem. The reverse switch is located on the transaxle. You will need to lie on the ground behind the tractor. Then look around the transaxle for a red/black wire. Follow the wire to the switch. For testing only, you can remove the wire and tape the end. Then check the operation. If the blades will engage, I recommend replacing the switch.

Roger, I am sorry you are having a problem. I recommend checking the wire connections from the PTO switch to the electric clutch first. If the connections are ok, you will need a meter to check the voltage to the clutch. If you have a meter, place the leads in the connector for the electric clutch. Then sit on the seat and turn the key on. When you pull out on the switch, you should have 12 volts going to the clutch. If you have the voltage, the clutch is likely the problem. If you do not have the voltage, the problem is likely the PTO switch. If you could reply with a model number, I will be happy to advice on checking the PTO switch. Thank you for using Manage My Life! Q:

PTO on PGT 9000

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. I suspect the reverse safety switch is stuck closed or the wire going to that switch is grounded. The switch is located on the transaxle and should only be closed when the shifter is in reverse. To check the switch you remove the wire and tape it off to the side so it does not hit anything. Then check the operation of the tractor. if you can mow forward without is stalling the switch needs to be adjusted or replaced. DO NOT LEAVE THE WIRE DISCONNECTED. this only to do the test. If the tractor still dies, I suspect the problem is a shorted wire. The wire has to be traced and repaired.

I see that the tractor is a 2011 model. The tractor has a 2-year warranty and can be repaired at your home at no charge. Please call 1-800-469-4663.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you for the reply. I should be able to assist you in a wiring diagram for the tractor. The first image is the diagram. The second image shows the tractor in run state and the third shows in reverse mode. I recommend checking the wire down on the transaxle first. If the wire is not connected correctly, it could cause this problem. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

If the wiring diagram does not match what is on the tractor I will have a hard time determining if you are getting voltage on the correct wires. I keep coming up with the same wiring diagram for this model. I recommend having a service technician come out and repair the tractor. The tractor is still covered by manufacture warranty.

Tom: As Mark suggested in his last response, the tractor has a 2 year warranty and we both recommend calling Sears and have the technician come out and diagnose the failure. It could be the ignition switch model assembly.

Ralph: I also recommend calling service on this specific model tractor if you do not find any broken or disconnected wires on the PTO switch or the electric clutch.

Craftsman PYT 9000

A:

Thank you for your question on the dash service minder showing that it is time to change the oil.

This indictor comes on when it reaches 49 hrs of run time and resets itself at 51 hrs automatically.

It will give you this reminder for 2hrs of run time before it resets itself.

I hope this will help.

Thank you Bruce; for your question on the engine monitor. If most cases it would say CHG OIL on the display. The meter monitors in 50 hour increments and reminds you to change oil. So I would suspect that CO means it is time to Change Oil. It should go away in a couple hours of run time. If it does not then please let me know and we can research for more information on the monitor. Sam A.
