Q:

need directions to replace treadmill belt model 831297360.

A:

The instructions for replacing the belt on a treadmill have never been printed. There are so many models with different variations it would be very difficult to do. Technicians are taught the basics at training sessions and are expected to adapt to the model they are working on.

  1. Basically you disconnect the power to the treadmill and remove the motor hood.
  2. Remove the adjusting bolts for the rear roller and remove both front and rear rollers. The rear roller in your treadmill is different from most treadmills. The roller is only adjustable on one side and fixed mounted on the other. I have had troubles reattaching the bolt, springs, and the spacers in the past.
  3. Remove the drive belt from the motor and front roller.
  4. Remove the side rails and the rear end caps.
  5. Remove the walking board.
  6. Slide the walking belt off the right side of the rollers.
  7. Reverse these instructions for installation of new belt.

I do want to mention again the rear roller is difficult to reinstall on your model. You might want to have this repair done by a technician.

Q:

how do i install walking belt on treadmill model 831297360

A:

Thank you for your question.

Replacing the belt on your treadmill is fairly difficult and time consuming. In addition, there are no really detailed instructions for replacing it since a professional would typically do that type of service. We do not have a treadmill service manual that shows how to replace the walking belt.

The basic instructions are listed below to help you.

  1. Unplug the treadmill from the power source.
  2. Remove the motor hood on the front of the treadmill.
  3. Remove the right foot rail.
  4. Remove the rear roller adjusting bolts.
  5. Remove the front roller adjusting bolt. Make sure to count the number of turns it takes to remove the bolt. Then when you reinstall the bolt, you can get it in the same place.
  6. Remove the front roller.
  7. Remove the screws from the right side of the walking board. Then lift the walking board and slide the walking belt off the board.
  8. Reverse the instructions to reassemble the treadmill.
  9. Before installing the motor hood carefully check the operation. The drive belt might need to be adjusted.
I have added the instructions for adjusting the walking belt below. Again, this is a fairly involved repair, so if you have any concerns or reservations you may want to consult a professional.

I hope this is helpful. Please reply below if you need further assistance. Here is a link to order any parts you need. Sears Parts Direct .
