Q:

troubleshooting a treadmill

A:

Thank you for your question on the treadmill suddenly not running. There is no fuse on the unit other than the reset button next to the power cord and on/off switch and you said that the console had power.

It could be a number of things with it being that old.

It could be the console as well as the motor control board or the motor choke or the power supply that feeds the motor controller.

If you feel comfortable with checking for voltage in and out of the controls and you have volt ohm meter then we may be able to find the problem.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Please let me know what you want to do. Because of its age you may want to consider replacing the treadmill since some of the parts are no longer available.

Thank you for the update Lou8005. Yes I did mention that it could be problem with one of several parts. I looked at parts availability and discover that either they are no longer available or would have to be sent in to be rebuilt. I did not see that you could order any of the parts I mentioned directly. You may want to remove the hood on the treadmill and check all the wire connections and to see if you may have a bad connection on the motor harness or the power board and motor controller. You said that you did not smell any connections burning but there could be a loose connection that has oxidized over the years and know is not making a good contact. Please be careful if you intend to check it while still plugged in and on. I agree with you that it may be a waste of time and money to attempt any repair. Sam A.

Thank you for your request for the wiring diagram for the treadmill. There should be one under the motor hood, but I will send one and also a troubleshooting flow chart that may help you as well. Sam A.
