Q:

HOW DO I INSTALL A NEW MOTOR DRIVE BELT? 831295250 Proform Proform xp5425

A:

Thank you for your question on the replacement of the drive belt on the treadmill.

You will first need to remove the power to the treadmill.

Then remove the screws that attach the hood.

Then on the right side of the treadmills from roller remove the long screw that secure the front roller to the frame. I would suggest that you either count the turns on the screw or mark the threads at the nut on the screw with a maker so when you put it back together you will be very close to the same alignment location.

Once you have the bolt removed then you should be able to slide the roller out of the frame on the left side.

Then you can remove the old belt and install the new belt onto the front roller.

Then you can reinstall the front roller and install the adjuster bolt on the right side and tighten to the original place on the bolt.

You will then install the belt on the motor pulley and then roll it onto the front roller pulley and center it in the grooves on the both pulleys.

If that prove to be too difficult you can loosen the two pivot bolts on the motor frame. Loosen both the one on the bottom pivot and the adjuster pivot on the smile slot in the frame.

Tighten the belt to the point where with some effort you can grab the belt in the middle between the two pulleys and turn the belt sideways for the correct tightness.

I hope this information will help you with the drive belt replacement.

Q:

I have a Proform XP5425 model(831-295250) treadmill. The front roller will not turn the belt without slipping. Do I need a belt or roller?

A:

Does the inner surface of the walking belt show any wear? Is it slick with no rough places?

If your treadmill has had continuous use, the walking belt might be worn out. Rollers don't normally cause this problem.

If the treadmill were mine, I would put some belt lubricant on it and see how long it lasts. The belt lubricant reduces the friction between the belt and the walking board. The alternative is to replace the belt.

The part number for the belt lubricant is:

219168 and the cost is around $5.00.
