Question and Answers

Q:

My Sears treadmill only goes up, won't respond to any controls. Is the circuit board fried? The model number is 831294052.

A:

Before replacing any parts, try putting the treadmill through the calibration process. I am sending you 2 images that describe the calibration.

If calibration doesn't help the problem try disconnecting the power to the treadmill and disconnecting the 8 wire connector from the controller. Plug the treadmill in and see if the incline motor still tries to run. If it does replace the controller. If it doesn't someone needs to check the voltage to the controller from the console to see which is causing the problem. Many times this problem is caused by a pinched wire in the harness between the console and the controller.

Q:

I have a Pro-Form 540S tread mill. Only the incline will turn. It will not turn off. What is wrong?

A:

The incline motor could not stop the console from lighting up. You might have a bad console, motor controller board, or a problem in the wiring harness from the motor controller board to the console.

You can disconnect the power cord from the wall plug, and remove the motor hood from the treadmill. Check the 8 wire connector on the motor controller that comes down from the console. Inspect the terminals in the connector to see if one has backed out of the connector or has a wire broken in it.

Remove the console and inspect the wires in the 8 wire connector there.

Any further checks would require a volt/ohm meter and would be best done by a technician.
