Q:

I just changed the motor of my craftsman radial saw and there is a difference between the old and the new motor.

A:

Thank you for your question on the motor for the Radial arm saw.

The red button on the side of the motor is the re-settable overload reset button. If the blade gets into a bind the stalls the motor it will pop the reset and when the winding cool down you will be able to push the red button to rest the circuit for the motor.

Q:

i have a craftsman 2.5 radial arm saw, motor model 818227, can i substitute the 818888 for it. my old motor will not start anymore

A:

Thank you for your question on the radial arm saw motor substitution.

I will need the model number of the radial arm saw to see if this is possible. In most cases it will not substitute unless the parts system says it will. The part number 818227 does not come up in our parts system as a motor. The 81888 does come up as a motor. I will need to see the parts breakdown on the saw to see if it would be compatible with mounting to the saw.

The most common reasons for the motor not starting is the start switch on the front of the saw motor not making contact. If the motor did not burn and smoke I would first look at the switch before replacing the complete motor.

Please reply with the model number of the saw and I will be happy to check into it.
