Question and Answers

Q:

Refrigerator ice making problem

A:

That ER IF code indicates that the ice compartment is not cooling. This is usually caused by a problem with the ice compartment cooling fan. There is not any easy fix or reset for this problem. Here is a link for a previous answer that discusses technical troubleshooting for this failure: There display on my Kenmore Elite Bottom freezer reads ER 1F. Why and how do I fix it? The Ice maker will not work either.

This can be a complicated fix. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Hello Stephen. That ice compartment fan will be behind the back panel inside the freezer compartment. Once you remove the drawer and the back panel, you will see that fan on the upper left side of the evaporator area. It is difficult to reach since this model has a bottom freezer. A service technician normally completes this repair but some homeowners are able to reach the fan and replace it themselves. The ice compartment fan will be held in place on a bracket. I hope that this additional information helps. If you need more assistance, let us know.
