Question and Answers

Q:

Kenmore refrigerator #79575554401: The left door wil not stay closed. I see a latch missing, but the diagram doesn't show clearly

A:

You can probably replace that latch to fix this problem. That latch is not listed on the parts diagram. The part number for the left door is 4430JJ2004B. You can order that part from the Sears PartsDirect website. The image below shows how to install that part.

If the plastic housing on the gasket that holds that part is broken, then you will probably need to replace that door gasket.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will try to assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

Refrigerator Front door readout gives error code ( E r ) for freezer temp and (d H) for refrigerator temp. What do the codes mean? Besides call service.

A:

The Er dH error code indicates that the control board detects a problem with the automatic defrost system. I provided technical information about that failure in the images below. You could have a bad defrost heater, a failed defrost sensor, a blown fuse in the sensor assembly, a wiring failure or a bad control board that would cause this problem. You may be able to enter the diagnostic test cycle shown in the first image and check to see if that defrost heater is turning on. You can also unplug the refrigerator and check the resistance of the defrost temperature sensor. The control board is behind a cover on that outside back panel of the refrigerator. Based on your findings, you may be able to determine which component needs to be replaced. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website. Be sure that you unplug the refrigerator before accessing internal components. I provided some information on accessing the sensor assembly on the evaporator in the third image. To remove that cover over the evaporator in the freezer, you will need to remove the freezer door and other components. Reply with additional details if you need help accessing components.

This can be a difficult failure to diagnose and repair. That is why it is normally recommended that you call a technician to fix this type of problem. Here is a link for the Sears Service website in case you need it: Sears Home Services .
