Question and Answers

Q:

Ice Maker making Knocking sound 79571603012 Kenmore Refrigerator

A:

That automatic shutoff arm checks the level of ice cubes in the ice bucket before the frozen batch of ice is ejected from the ice mold in the ice maker. The arm may be hitting ice inside the ice bucket or the side of the ice bucket. Make sure that your ice bucket is properly inserted in the freezer. If the ice bucket is full, empty some of the ice out and see if the knocking stops (until it's full again).

If the knocking occurs while the ice bucket is empty, then the automatic shutoff arm may be hitting the roof of the freezer compartment. Unplug the refrigerator and try to adjust the position of the ice maker in the freezer if possible to cure that problem.

A:

That ice maker should be mounted to the side liner of the freezer using some screws. Unplug the refrigerator and remove items from the freezer to get to those mounting screws. There is usually at least some play in the mounting holes of the ice maker. See if you loosen the mounting screws and move the ice maker down slightly and then re-tighten the screws. You may need to use a mirror and some lights to see the mounting screws for the ice maker. That may help you resolve your problem. If you need more assistance, let us know.
