Question and Answers

Q:

How do I know if I need a UIB or Power Board for oven without ordering both parts?

A:

The previous answer did not address an upgrade in the programming of the ERC control board. It is likely that your ERC board is not compatible with the user interface and power relay board and this is what is causing the F5 01 error code. There is a kit that contains all 3 of the boards that are compatible and would normally be needed instead of just replacing the ERC board. The kit part number is 5304455004. It contains the ERC board, the power relay board for the burners and the user interface control board. If you are able to return the ERC board, you can buy this part from the Sears PartsDirect website. It costs $266.80 (not including tax, shipping and handling). If you are not able to return the ERC (part 316418750), then I recommend ordering and replacing both the user interface board (upgraded part number 316271801) and the power relay board (upgraded part number 316272402). Ordering and replacing these boards with the original part number (316272401 and 316271800) will not likely solve this F5 01 error code problem.

Q:

Kenmore Elete Model #7909912

A:

The F5-01 error code indicates that you have a communication error between the surface unit control board and the electronic oven control board. The control boards in this range have been revised and upgraded. To properly replace the electronic oven control board, you need to use a kit part 5304455004 that has all 3 of the revised boards (electronic oven control board, the user interface board and the power relay board. These three boards are shown in the first 2 images. The power relay board is located behind the lower back panel of the range as shown in the third image. I provided a wiring diagram for your range in the 4th image in case you need it. I recommend that you return that original control board and order the kit (part 5304455004). Here is a direct link for that part on the Sears PartsDirect.com website: Electronic Oven Control Kit .

The kit should have instructions. Be sure that you unplug the range before accessing internal components.

This information should help you resolve this range problem. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

Replacing all 3 control boards is a more extensive repair than just replacing the electronic oven control. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
