Question and Answers

Q:

oven does not work

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern. I must assume the surface elements will heat up normally. If the surface element works then we know the range has the proper voltage supply.

Generally speaking, whenever one of the oven elements (bake or broil) burns out and shorts it can take out the electronic oven control board (EOC). The EOC has several relays on the control board and the line two out (L2) out relay was likely fried when the element shorted and burnt out. The L2 out relay is common to both Bake and Broil elements. I added an image below with the two circuits highlight.

The Electronic Oven Control will most likely have to be removed and replaced. The only way to know for sure is to check the L2 out voltage to the BK terminal when Bake programmed, and to test the voltage across L2 out BRL when broil is programmed. NOTE: I do not recommend checking voltages unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so, otherwise I highly recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your range.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
