Question and Answers

Q:

How do I replace the broiler element in the free standing electric 79096513402.

A:

Thank you for your question.

It gets a little exciting when an oven cavity element shorts out and burns up. It is a pretty common occurrence in the appliance repair world.

The part number 316203301 is the correct element to do this repair.

• I will be glad to help you replace this element on your range once you have the new element.

• There are two methods to changing this element.

  • One is from the oven cavity and the other is by gaining access to the back of the range.
• Disconnect the power to the range and open the oven door. It will make it easier to replace this from the front of the oven if you remove the door from the body of the range. Refer to the owner’s manual on page 26. If you do not have the owner’s manual door removal instruction page, I have included a picture below for you.

•*Locate and remove the two ¼ inch hex head screws that secure the element to the back wall of the oven cavity.

•* Remove the four screws that mount the element support to the ceiling of the range.

•* At this point carefully pull the element towards you to remove and draw the element and power wires into the oven cavity far enough to get to the hex head screws that secure the wires to the element.

  • Remove these wires and connect to the new element.
  • Be careful when disconnecting the wire that you hold the wire connector terminal when you are removing the screws so as not to damage or short out the connection. The same is true especially when installing the new element. Firmly tighten the screw connectors on the new element. And reinstall the element into the back of the oven liner and secure with their screws.

• Re-install the element supports in the ceiling of the range that support the element.

• Re-install the door and return power to the range and test operation of broil element.

•* Note! In some cases when removing the element for the range from the oven cavity side the wires will not come through the liner. If this is the case you will have to access the wire terminals from the rear of the range by pulling the range out from the wall and removing the back panel. The rest of the steps are the same as above.
