Question and Answers

Q:

why is my element light stay on ? not shutting off ...79096414406

A:

Your symptoms indicate that you have a bad contact on one of the burner switches in the console. The first image below shows a wiring diagram for your range with the circuits from the burner switches to that element light traced in purple. I recommend that you unplug the range and remove the upper back panel to access the burner switches in that console. With the range unplugged , pull the purple wire off of one of the burner switches as shown in the second image below. Tape the bare lead of that wire with electrical tape to prevent it from shorting to metal in the cabinet. Briefly plug the range back in and see if the element light remains on. If not, unplug the range and repeat that process until you find the burner switch that is causing this problem. Be sure that you unplug the range when accessing those wires on the back of the burner switches. It is easy to forget that step when troubleshooting this failure. Once you determine the switch that has failed, you can order the replacement switch from the Sears PartsDirect website. Unplug the range before replacing that switch. Here is a link for a brief repair video that shows how to replace that switch: Burner Switch Replacement .

This information should help you fix your element light problem. If you need more help, reply with additional details.

If you get to a point where you need to have a service technician repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .
