Question and Answers

Q:

replacement switch connectors 79096122409

A:

Although the location of the wire terminal connections are different, the switch wires should be connected to the terminals that are labeled the same as the original switch. I looked at the wiring diagram and see that the orange wire should connect to H2, red to L2, purple to P and black to L1. If you are not certain that you can properly wire the new switch, I recommend that you have a service technician wire the new switch. Unplug the range before accessing internal components and wiring the new burner switch.

Q:

Kenmore Electric Range Model #79096122409..terminal block for plug arched out and melted terminal block all lts and power shut down could other what would cause

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern. Based on your details and failure, there was likely a loose of bad wire connection at the RED wire where it was connected to the terminal block. A loose wire connection will cause high resistance which will cause heat and eventually cause the wire insulation to melt and when the bare wire touches cabinet ground it will pop and spark. This type of short will not always trip a circuit breaker.

The burnt power cord should be replaced and any other burnt wires. If the terminal block is burnt and damaged, it should be replaced also. You can order the terminal block at Sears PartsDirect

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
