Question and Answers

2010 Kenmore electric stove top model #790 does not stay heated, oven/broiler works fine.

Electric burners do provide even heat when working correctly. I can understand how difficult it would be to get the meal prepared when the burners keep going off. I located a similar question that may help while you wait for the expert answer. If you decide to schedule service, I attached the Sears Home Services link below.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

It is normal operation for the radiant burners to cycle off and on. If the burner switch is on HIGH setting the radiant burner can also cycle off if the high limit sensor opens because the lack of heat transfer. The burner switches regulates the OFF/ON cycling of the radiant burners. Also, each radiant burner has a high limit sensor that will also turn it off if the radiant burner overheats due to the lack of heat transfer. It is very important that your pots and pans are perfectly flat. If the pot or pans are not flat, the heat cannot transfer properly which can cause the radiant burner to fade off until the high limit sensor cools and resets. If you're using too small a diameter pot or pan for the burner, it can also cycle OFF sooner than normal by the high limit sensor.

I also added an image below with some useful information and I also added a link to the Use and Care Guide in case you need it.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.
