Question and Answers

Q:

F-10 Code: I have a Kenmore range, model # 79096022400. After the over preheats, a code if F-10 flashes along with a beep. Oven turns off. What's wrong?

A:

Thank you for your question.

I can understand wanting to be able to use your oven and it will not work when you turn it on and then gives you an error code.

The F10 error code indicates one of two things that could be wrong with the oven.

The oven temperature sensor may have failed the wire connector for this sensor may have melted.

I you are comfortable with using a multi-meter we can check this component to see if it has failed or if the electronic oven control has failed.

The first thing to do is to remove power to the range for at least 1 minute and then restore power. Reset the clock for the time of day and try to start the oven again. If the error returns then we will need to check the sensor.

To check the sensor first REMOVE POWER TO THE RANGE Pull the range away from its location and locate and remove the screws in the back panel of the range.

Once you have these removed you will see the wire connector for the sensor on the upper left side behind the oven cavity.

Examine the plug-in connector on the wire harness for the sensor makes sure it is not melted. If it is then cut the wires and remove the melted plastic connector and use ceramic wire nuts to re-connect the wires.

This may fix the problem with the range.

If the wires are not melted then separate the wire harness connector and with an ohm-meter check for 1100 ohms of resistance on the two connectors for the sensor. If it is more that 50 ohms off in either direction then you will have to replace the sensor.

The part number for the sensor is: 316217001 for about $40.00.

If the sensor check with in the ohms range required then you will need to replace the electronic oven control (EOC).

The part number for the EOC is: 316557108 for about $125.00.

If you discover that you will need more help in repairing your range then please reply and I will be happy to help your further with part replacement instructions.
