Question and Answers

Q:

kenmore: hex key set

A:

Thank you for your question.

I can see how you can get confused with the way the screw head looks for changing the element.

  • Even though it has a strange configuration for the inside of the screw head the outside of the screw can be removed with a 1/4 inch hex nut driver.

  • REMOVE POWER to the range.

  • Open the oven door and remove if you want, to make it easier. I have taken a picture of the page out of the owners manual for you to follow.

  • If you choose not to remove the door, that is ok because it just adds another step.

  • Locate the screws you where referring to in your details, and use a 1/4 inch nut driver to remove the screws.

  • Once removed carefully pull the element out from the back oven wall and work the wire connections into the oven cavity far enough to get to the terminals.

  • Carefully remove the wire terminals on the element ends. Do not bend the connections.

  • Once you have changed out of the element, slide back into the oven liner and re-connect the screws to hold in place.

  • Restore power to the range and test operation.

I hope these instructions will help you with your element replacement.

Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Q:

F9 Error

A:

The F9 indicates that the electronic control board detects a problem with the door lock assembly. Your symptoms seem to verify this failure since the door lock assembly is not operating properly. The link for a previous answer provided by Joseph P. in the above response describes a similar problem. Replacing that door lock assembly (part 316464300) may fix this problem.

You can order that part from the Sears PartsDirect website.

If you replace the door lock assembly and still have a problem, then you will probably need to replace the electronic oven control board.

These tips may help you resolve this range problem yourself. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
