Question and Answers

Q:

eletric range 79094383700 element light staying on?

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

I don't have clear understanding of which indicator light is on. It has a "Hot Surface" indicator light above each surface control knobs and an "Element ON" indicator light. If it's the "Element ON" indicator, one of the 4 surface controls is faulty. If it's the "Hot Surface" indicator, one of the radiant elements is faulty.

One way of diagnosing which surface controls is faulty would require disconnecting the range from the power source and removing the panel from behind the console. Each burner switch has a wire connected to terminal "P". Pull the wire connected to terminal "P" from one switch only and then reconnect power. If the light stays off, replace that burner switch. If it comes on when power is restored, disconnect the power cord, reconnect the wire and pull the wire off terminal "P" from the next and continue these steps until the light stays off. If it's the "Hot Surface" indicator, I strongly suggest calling a service technician to diagnose which radiant burner is faulty causing the "Hot Surface" light to remain on.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

My kenmore electric range stove 79094383700 i bought this at sears dec,of 2007

A:

I understand your concern about this failure. That type of short circuit can create a dangerous condition. If the range was properly installed, that type of failure would normally be covered during the 1 year warranty period. Since the range is outside of that warranty period, that failure is not covered by the manufacturer's warranty. Due to the nature of that failure, I recommend that you have a service technician examine and repair the range. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

If you want to examine and repair the range yourself, you may be able to fix it by replacing the power cord and the terminal block (part 5303935271). You would also need to pull the back panels off (with the range still unplugged ) and examine the wiring. You may need to replace that clock control board in the console it that component was damaged when the power cord connections shorted out. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website. Be sure that you unplug the range before accessing internal components.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.
