Question and Answers

Q:

WE BOUGHT A MODEL 79090312012 SER #DF13876538 A LTTLE OVER A YEAR AGO

A:

That oven does not have a reset button for the bake (or broil) circuit. I traced the bake circuit in yellow and orange on the wiring diagram in the image below. Since the broiler works and the element is okay, I suspect that you have a bad electronic oven control board (part 316557232). That component costs about $100. You will normally need to replace the overlay (part 316352011).

I recommend that you unplug the range and check the wiring connections on the control board using the wiring diagram below as a guide. Check the yellow wire that should be connected to the Bake spade on the control board. If that wire is intact, then you can check the resistance through that bake circuit using a volt/ohm meter. You indicated that you had someone check the heating element and it is okay. You should measure the same resistance through that bake circuit from the control board as you measured through the heating element when it was being checked (probably around 17 ohms +/1 10 ohms). If that circuit is okay, then I recommend that you replace that electronic control board if you want to fix this problem yourself. You can order parts from this page: Kenmore Range Model 790.90312012 Parts . Be sure that you unplug the range before accessing internal components and replacing parts.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .

The above information should help you resolve the repair issue with the range. I understand your dissatisfaction with the range due to this failure after a little more than one year. Although we are not in the best position to address that satisfaction issue, we want to help you get in touch with the right team at Sears that can help you. You can call the Sears National Customer Relations Office at 1-800-549-4505 regarding the range. I am certain that they will be able to help you.
