Question and Answers

gas range not lighting

Changing parts on certain appliances are fairly easy. I placed links that will be very helpful in doing this do it yourself project. The first link is the parts diagram you can look at the parts that might be what you are needing to replace. The other link is an expert explaining what you need to change. I hope that you find it easy to fix and have it up and running in no time.

The igniter switch on that burner is likely causing this problem. See if the burner will ignite if you turn on a second burner as the same time so that the igniters all spark. When one igniter sparks, all of the igniter electrodes on the burners should spark. If that burner lights when the electrode sparks, then you will need to replace the igniter switches (part 316219019) for the range. The igniter switches and connecting harness come as one component in this range. An individual switch cannot be replaced by itself. You can order that part from the Sears PartsDirect website. Here is a direct link for that part: Wiring Harness .

The procedure for replacing the igniter switches is shown in the image below. Be sure that you unplug the range and shut off the gas supply before accessing internal components.

If the burner still will not ignite even though the igniters are sparking, then you may need to replace the electrode on that burner. Try cleaning it thoroughly before replacing it. If you need to replace the igniter electrode, you can use the access information shown below. Be sure that you unplug the range and shut off the gas supply before accessing internal components.

These tips should help you resolve this problem in your range. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
