Question and Answers

Q:

What does the F10 code mean on my Kenmore range?

A:

The F10 fault code indicates your oven temperature has exceeded 590 degrees with the door unlocked or 990 degrees with the door locked.

The electronic oven control senses the temperature of the oven by the resistance of the oven temperature sensor inside the oven. The resistance increases as the temperature increases. Sometimes the temperature sensors fail and send incorrect resistances to the control. Sometimes oven control boards fail and misread the resistance. Sometimes the connection between the oven temperature sensor and the electronic oven control is bad causing the resistance to be high.

I recommend you schedule service and get a technician to diagnose and repair the range.

Q:

kenmore model# 79078572406 free standing gas range alittle over 1 year old every things works but cant get the broiler to work can you help?

A:

In order for the broil burner to operate the oven control board must close the broil relay when broil is selected and started. If you hear a faint audible click of the broil relay closing then the oven control board is likely okay. If you don't hear the audible click of the broil relay closing then the control board has likely failed. If you hear the audible click, open the oven door and look up towards the top of the oven to see if the glow bar igniter is glowing red or not. It may take it 20 seconds before it begins to glow. If you find it glowing then the glow bar igniter is likely too weak to pull enough current to cause the gas valve to open, replace the broil igniter. If the broil igniter is not glowing then the failure could be a broken broil igniter, failed gas valve or a failed oven control board. If it does not glow, disconnect the igniter connector and then the voltage supply to the igniter should be checked and confirmed. NOTE: I do not recommend checking voltages unless you have experience and you feel safe and confident in doing so, otherwise I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your range. If you do not feel safe in checking the voltage, disconnect the power cord from the power source and completely remove the broil igniter. The broil igniter can be tested with an ohm meter for continuity to see if it's broken or not. I added some information in the images below. If you find a failed broil igniter then you can order and have it shipped to you from Sears Parts Direct .

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
