Question and Answers

Why won't the igniter light the bake burner tube on my Kenmore gas range model 790.75731890?

This type of failure normally indicates that the igniter is bad even though it is glowing. The safety gas valve on the bake burner will not open unless enough current flows through the circuit. Even though the igniter is glowing, the resistance of this component is not likely decreasing enough so that the proper current will flow through the circuit so that the gas valve will open for ignition. Replacing the igniter will likely fix this problem. You can order a new igniter from the Sears PartsDirect website. The part number for the igniter is 5303935066. If you replace this part yourself, be sure that you unplug the range to disconnect electrical power before accessing the igniter.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
