Question and Answers

Q:

Kenmore gas range - oven locked, display dead

A:

There is not a thermal disc on this range that will prevent the display on the control from lighting up when the range is plugged in. See if the stove top burner igniters tick when a burner is turned on. If the igniter electrodes for the stove top burners work, then this indicates that the range is getting power through the electrical cord. If those burners do not tick, then you could have a problem with the power cord. An internal wiring failure could also prevent the range from getting any electrical power.

If those surface burner igniters work, then you probably have a bad electronic oven control board. You can unplug the range and check the wiring connections on that control board before replacing it. The wiring diagram in the image below shows the power supply to that control board marked in red and blue. The actual wire colors are black and white. Remove the back panel behind the console to access the electronic oven control board (with the range unplugged ). If those wiring connections are okay, then that control board will probably need to be replaced. You can order that part from this page: Electronic Clock Controller for Kenmore Range Model 790.72902012 . You will probably also need the overlay (part 316352008).
