Question and Answers

Q:

Oven issue. What kind of part do I need to order

A:

It is likely that you will need to replace that oven light switch (part 316448701 for the white color of switch). You can order that part from this page: Light Switch for Kenmore Range Model 79071052404 . That page has an image of the part. Be sure that you unplug the range before accessing internal components and replacing parts.

I recommend that you carefully examine the wiring in that oven light switch circuit. You will need to replace any wiring that is damaged or burnt. As noted above, be sure that you unplug the range before accessing internal components.

You can normally find replacement wire at your local hardware store or electrical supply center. An appliance repair center should also have wiring that you can use for repair of that circuit.

A short circuit in the wiring of that range is dangerous. If you are not completely confident that you can safely complete this repair and restore the range to a safe condition, then I recommend that you have a service technician examine and repair the range. You can schedule service through this page: Sears Home Services .

Q:

sears oven will not maintain temperature after first turned onrned

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Based on your symptom and details it sounds like it does have a weak glow bar igniter. Open the broiler drawer and turn the oven to bake and monitor the glow bar igniter operation. If you find the igniter glowing red for one minute or longer and the oven burner does not ignite, replace the glow bar igniter and your oven will operate normally again.

To access and replace the glow bar igniter, disconnect the range from the power source and then remove the oven floor.  The new igniter will come with two ceramic wire nuts to splice the igniter wires together. You can cut the two wires near the old igniter and then use the ceramic wire nuts to splice and reconnect the wires.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.
