Question and Answers

Do I need to replace the control panel or the clock in my Kenmore electric oven model 790.47172400 when all buttons work except up & Clock?

This type of failure usually indicates that the control panel assembly is bad. A damaged or loose ribbon wire connection can sometimes cause this problem. I recommend disconnecting electrical power to the range (turn off the breaker) and checking for a loose or damaged ribbon wire connection from the control panel to the electronic control board (clock/timer). If you can find a loose connection and fix it, this may correct your problem without replacing parts. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the ribbon connection on the control board several times. This can sometimes re-establish a proper connection. Reassemble the oven and test the button functions. If the buttons still fail to operate, then I recommend replacing the control panel. In the unlikely event that the problem exists after replacing the control panel, then the electronic oven control board will need to be replaced.
