Question and Answers

Q:

how to install new control panel to my kenmore elite convection stove

A:

Before replacing the electronic oven control board, I recommend that you check the resistance of the oven temperature sensor probe. This component could also cause an F1. It is worth checking before replacing the control board. Shut off the house circuit breaker for the range and access the temperature probe wire harness disconnect plug using the procedure shown in the second image below. Measure the resistance of this component using a volt/ohm meter. You should measure near 1100 ohms of resistance at room temperature. If the resistance is over 2000 ohms at room temperature then the sensor will need to be replaced. NOTE: If the resistance of the sensor is okay, you could also have a wire harness problem that is causing high resistance to be sensed at the control board in the console. Plugging the sensor back in and checking the resistance of the entire sensor circuit through the wires that plug into the control board is a good idea before replacing the control board.

Accessing and replacing the electronic oven control in this range appears to be a complicated procedure. I recommend that you seriously consider having a service technician replace the control board if it is causing this F1 code. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

If you want to try and replace the electronic oven control board yourself, you will need to shut off the circuit breaker for the range. It appears that you will need to pull the range out and remove the cook top as shown in the first image below. You should then be able to remove the wire harness shield and may be able to remove the control board. You may need to pull the console further out to access the screws that secure the control board in the console. Be sure that you note the wire harness connections before removing wires off of the control board. These tips should help you replace the control board if you are going to do it yourself. If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will try to help you further. We may need digital pictures if you have trouble accessing the board in the console.
