Question and Answers

Q:

Why would my Kenmore Elite Oven with warm drawer, model 79046803992, display F1 and beep?

A:

The F1 error code is caused by a defective oven temperature probe, a defective electronic control (EOC), or the wiring between the two.

To determine the problem someone needs to remove the power from the oven and remove the control back panel. The oven temperature probe is connected to the back of the EOC with 2 violet wires. Disconnect the plug with the violet wires in it and take an ohm reading between the violet wires. At room temperature the resistance should be between 1000 and 1200 ohms.

If the resistance is correct the EOC is bad. If the resistance is off someone needs to remove the lower back panel and disconnect the violet wires from the temperature probe harness. Measure the resistance of the temperature probe. If the resistance of the temperature probe is incorrect the probe is defective. If the resistance of the probe is correct, the problem is in the wire harness.

Q:

Hooked up a new switch to my Kenmore Elite slide-in electric (Model#79046803992 and it still doesn't work.

A:

I recommend that you shut off the house electrical circuit breaker for the range and check the wiring on that switch. The wiring diagram for that switch is shown in the image below. If that switch is not wired correctly, then the element will not heat. Since it was heating before you replaced the switch, the element should be okay. The wiring in that circuit should also be good.

If the switch is wired correctly, then you could have a bad replacement burner switch.

I hope that this information helps. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician examine and repair that burner switch, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .

Your current details seem to indicate that the burner will not heat at all. See if the "element on" light illuminates when you turn on that burner switch. If not, then this points to a bad contact inside the switch. The wiring diagram in the image below shows the circuits traced in colors (not actual wire colors). When the switch is turned on, you should get voltage through that pink path to turn on the "element on light". You should also get electrical current through the red and green path on that diagram. If you have a volt/ohm meter, you can UNPLUG the range and check the continuity through the burner switch to see if that component is okay. If it is, then you could have a bad element or a failed limiter on that element. I hope that this additional information helps. If you need more assistance, let us know.

Q:

Replace the dural switch 79046803992 KENMORE ELITE ELECTRIC SLIDE-IN RANGE

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

I added the wiring diagram in the image below. This should help. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing. Each wire should also be marked with a letter and number so you know where to attach the wires to the infinite switches.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
