Question and Answers

Q:

I have a Kenmore Elite Electric Slide-In Range (Model 79046713604)

A:

That type of problem is normally caused by a failed sensor on that element (part 318297805). The sensor contact is likely stuck and is causing that hot surface light to stay on constantly. Replacing that element will normally fix that problem. I recommend that you have a service technician verify that failure and replace the element if necessary. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

If you want to fix this problem yourself, then you can order that element from the Sears PartsDirect website. Shut off the house circuit breaker for the range and remove that cook to access and replace that element. The basic procedure for removing that cook top is shown in the first image below. Your range is slightly different than the one shown in that first image. You will probably need to remove the screws on each side to release that console. The second image shows the screw that holds the console in place on a similar model of slide-in range. This information should help you fix this range failure. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.
